"You're on the Air: How to Really Make it in Voice-Overs!" is a one-time, 2-hour interactive workshop. This class is designed to introduce interested students to the industry, allow them to ask questions, check out industry standard recording equipment, and even get to step up to the mic and record a practice voice-over.
In this class, our professional voice-over artist and instructor Trish Basanyi discusses the main players in the voice-over industry, how it used to work vs. how it works today, basic voice-over technique for a narration vs. commercial, what clients want to hear in their advertisements, where voice-over artists work today, if the voice-over industry is right for you, how to get voice-over training, how to use the Such A Voice method to develop your unique voice, and how to best market your voice-over brand to become a successful voice-over artist.
Trish is from northern New Jersey, about an hour outside of New York City. She spent a few years after college working at a desk job in accounting. In 1999, she became involved in the local radio station cluster both on and off the air, and a friend suggested she go into voice-overs. She began researching the industry and training for commercial technique in New York City. A year later, she produced a demo and was quickly picked up by several agents and casting directors to audition for and work with on a freelance basis.
After four years doing part-time work in voice-overs, Trish decided to go full-time with her own home studio in New Jersey. Since then, she has recorded over a thousand radio and television commercials, website narrations, training and educational videos and telephone systems. She has acquired more than 10 talent agents across the country. Her clients include major corporations such as Verizon, Wal-Mart, Dow Chemical, Motorola, IBM, Costco, Bell-Atlantic and Cisco Systems.
Trish is also an established producer and currently co-hosts a podcast on the topic of voice-overs, which is highly regarded in the industry among professionals and beginners alike.
