Ultimately, most of us would love to finish our voice-over training and have a clear path to all of the opportunities that are out there. But if it were that easy, then it would be a super long line of everyone, one-by-one, taking their turn, right?
In order to be successful in voice-over, you must create your OWN path and opportunities. Never completely depend on anyone – an agent, a casting director, or someone who can “get you in” – though these are all GREAT people to have on your team and begin relationships with.
Plant the seeds first.
Then organically water them with your friendly, easy-to-work-with personality, and talent. Once again, as I always say, get so good they can’t ignore you.
Ok, so how do you do this? Well, there are several opportunities out there to get “good” and network. Here is a list I have created:
- Agents, both local & regional
- Pay-to-play (P2P) sites where you pay a monthly/yearly fee for the opportunity to audition
- Presence on search engines – make sure your website has good search engine optimization (SEO)!
- Talent/on-camera /web casting websites
- LAcasting.com
- Actorsaccess.com
- Castingfrontier.com
- Make sure to search ALL of them
- Casting directors
- Craigslist (use caution)
- Upwork (use caution)
- Production companies
- Ad agencies
- Business-to-Business (B2B)
- Recording studios
- TV Production studios
- Facebook voice-over groups
- Other social media platforms
- Conventions like Comic-Con, and of course VO-specific conventions as well
Most importantly, have fun putting yourself out there and building your network!
