There are many keys to success, but sometimes it’s in the little things. Such A Voice’s and producers know there is no success to be gained overnight. You have to start from the moment you wake up. Here are a few ideas from our coaches that can help in your day-to-day affairs that will guide you toward your ultimate goals.
Eat Properly: When your voice is the core of your vocation, you have to care for it properly. If you are recording that day, skip the dairy and acidic foods. Have some fresh fruit and veggies, tea or water. Not only will this make your voice strong, it will help your body as well.
Accomplish something when you wake up: Even if it is as simple as making your bed, start strong!
Map-Out Your Day: Benjamin Franklin and Nikola Tesla had routines, every day they knew exactly what they had to get done, and what amount of good that would do for their goals. Set times for relaxation and breaks, and time for work. Avoid monotony, but stick to having a plan and you will complete everything you set out to finish.
Do the Hardest Thing First: By doing the least desirable task first, you are setting yourself up to achieve greatness. Science has shown that willpower is highest in the morning, so get the worst part done first while you have the drive.
Big Goals and Little Goals: There is more to a race than finding the finish line. Having big, long-term goals is a necessity, but you need stepping stones as well. Set a goal to practice your vocal exercises regularly, do some follow-ups for possible voice-over work, explore new routes for marketing your business. Every step toward the end is an achievement in and of itself.
Stay in the Moment: If you get on a creative roll and want to try something new with your voice, or have a light-bulb moment for your marketing efforts, DO IT NOW! Putting things off can ruin your ideas and wreck your efficiency.
Challenge Yourself: Have you only been auditioning for commercial spots? Time to shoot for audiobooks. Picking up plenty of narration work? Push yourself to try out animation! Strive to be versatile, and always ready to engage with something new. Stepping out of your comfort zone is a fantastic means of self-improvement.
Most importantly, keep positive, and stay out of autopilot. Change-up your days and what you do. Invest and believe in yourself, and your return will always be fruitful. You didn’t wake up today to be mediocre, so keep thinking bigger!
