SAV Staff Spotlight: Steven Wahlberg

Here at Such A Voice, we bring together some pretty incredible professionals from all different parts of the world to provide our students with a top voice-over education. Our staff members have such a wide variety of backgrounds and unique personalities. From working VO actors starring in movies, video games, and national TV commercial campaigns, to producers spending their days working on voice-over demos as well as broadcast voice-over work, to copywriters, casting directors and many other industry skills in between! We genuinely love bringing our expertise and our experiences together to create the best programs for our students.

For this week’s spotlight in the series, we’d like to introduce you to our Vice President of Experience, Steven Wahlberg.

Please share with us some of the exciting things you do here at Such A Voice.
I get to speak with students at various stages of their training and provide support and encouragement throughout their journey!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. You’re a dad, right?
First and foremast, I’m a husband and father…there’s nothing more important to me than my family. I got my voice over training through SAV almost 10 years ago and have been a working talent ever since!

How did you get your start in voice-over?
I literally launched my career on voices.com and have developed an expansive client base as a result.

Just wondering, if you could witness any event in the past, present or future, what would it be?
I would have loved to listen to Abraham Lincoln deliver the emancipation proclamation.

If money was no object, what would you do all day?
Be a commercial airline pilot or professional baseball player, LOL!

What is your niche in voice-over? What types of jobs do you book the most?
Narration work, generally speaking and more specifically, e-Learning, training modules and PowerPoint presentations

Do you prefer to get your news online or in newspapers?
Online

We’d love to hear about one of your favorite family traditions.
Every summer we go to a local mini-golf, go-cart, and batting cage facility and go out for ice cream after.

You worked in a corporate job before getting into voice-over, right? How did the experiences from that job help your VO business?
I was always conducting client meetings and speaking in front of large groups of people.

What piece of advice would you like to share with our readers about running their own business?
Well, just that…it is a business. It needs to be nurtured, invested in and run in a professional manner. Also, it’s a marathon and not a sprint. Most “overnight successes” take 5-7 years, LOL!
